First Federal Savings & Loan Association (1954)
The First Federal Savings & Loan Association was growing at an enormous pace after merging with State Building and Loan in 1938, necessitating enlargement of their facilities. A remodeling from basement to rooftop was designed by the Bank Building & Equipment Corporation, converting the previous First Federal Savings offices into one of the most financial buildings in the Southwest, according to the bank president. One of the most modern features of the new design is the three sets of vertical louvers with the center set providing constant shade from the desert sun through a photo-electric controlled motor. The contractor for the project was Perry Construction Co. Inc. of Phoenix.
