Citizens Bank & Trust Co. (c. 1963)
The Citizens Bank & Trust Co. in Quincy was designed and built during the period of experimentation with new materials for the Bank Building & Equipment Corporation, showing the company’s move away from the glass box. New shapes enter the design such as tall, inoperable first floor windows, new masonry materials, and overall, less space is provided for transparency and more to solids. It is unknown from documentation alone whether windows are located behind the original metal screen or if this building is still extant. However, it can be said that this structure is one that shows a transition in design philosophy from the open transparency of the previous decade to a show of substantive street presence, even in a small structure.
